Lowe said he first grasped that reality when he spent part of the summer of 2006 in Tanzania working with scientists who were trying to determine why the fish population of Lake Tanganyika was depleting.

He was born in Singapore while his father was serving there as a missionary for an organization of several Christian denominations.
Lowe, 29, is national spokesperson for Young Evangelicals for Climate Action and also is director of young adult ministries for the Evangelical Environmental Network.
For generations, fish from the lake have been the main food product and source of income for people in the region, he said, and the low fish production was reaching a crisis. At the time, Lowe was a senior biology major at Wheaton College in Illinois, and his job on the project was to help scientists gather data.

Lowe was at Hardin Simmons University Tuesday as part of the Christians the Climate Crisis speaking tour, which includes stops at 20 universities and seminaries.
