Clarence Fred Harper, 95, died Monday, October Omega Seamaster 751
26, 2009 at Anson General Hospital. Lake Road Abilene, TX. directed by Adams Graham Funeral Home. He was raised in Anson, graduating from Anson High School in 1931. He met his bride to be, Frances Powell, when she came to Anson to work in the NYA (National Youth Administration) set up by Mrs. Rossevelt to help young women learn home economics. She was from Lubbock, Texas and they met at Howell?s Drug Store, between Edward?s Hardware (then Moss Hardware) and the Opera House.
Anson before McKie died and Davis Harper continues to live in Anson. Their three sons, John, David, and Walter live in Omega Speedmaster Dark Side Of The Moon Pitch Black
Fred was the second of seven boys, Fred, Omega Constellation Mini McKie, and Bland Harper living past childhood. Bland owned Harper Cleaners, where Thompson Cleaners is today. Bland?s wife, Leta Mae (Treadwell) Harper taught elementary school in Anson for many years. Bland and Leta Mae are buried at Mount Hope Cemetery. Their son, Harvey, lives with his wife, Sonny, in Stephenville, Tx. McKie and his wife, Davis (Jones) Harper moved back to Omega Speedmaster Coaxial Chronometer
Clarence Fred Harper
Fred attended business college and worked as the Texaco Oil Agent in the building now occupied by Bennett Construction on Commercial Avenue. Harper owned the Harper Livery Stable and included oil leases in the early 1900?s in and around Anson. Army at Beaumont Hospital. He was discharged a First Lieutenant from Ft. Leavenworth, KS. They moved back to Anson, building the house at 520 Avenue I when their family grew with the addition of Sarah and then Kay. They lived in Anson for another 4 years, moved to Monahans, then to Lubbock, then on to Denver, CO, where they lived for over 30 years. Fred was a salesman and Frances taught elementary school until she retired. They moved to a retirement facility in Colorado Springs, CO, where both girls lived. In June 2008, they decided to move ?back home? for their remaining years. Their daughter, Kay Spears, moved with them.
Fred is also survived by his wife Frances Harper of Anson, his daughter Kay Spears, of Anson, his daughter Sarah Borchert (husband, Renney,) three grandchildren Libby Johns (and husband, Ben), Matt Spears (and wife, Jamie), Chad Burnett (and wife, Kathy); two great grandsons, Garrett and David Johns, of Colorado Springs, CO. Fred was a wonderful husband, ?daddy? and ?granddaddy? and an all around nice guy to everyone. His daughter, Kay, remembers when the coffee company he worked for, as a salesman made him retire at 62. ?It devastated him until he got a lawyer, sued them for age discrimination, and won! I think he got that ?take action when it isn?t right? from growing up in Anson.?
