Sykes said the new sewer treatment plant would be a state of the art, fully enclosed facility with no open ponds and an initial capacity of 1 Omega Watch Sale
"The big factor is protection of the aquifer" said GWSSA board member John Keys. "More septic systems worsen the nitrite problem. The agency has so many applications for new services that filling them all could consume the remaining capacity of the city plant. The best thing for the people in this valley is to get more treatment capacity."
After the vote, Sykes said he will now request support from the county. "I'm just grateful to get the endorsement," he said. "The next step is to go before the [Grand] County Council and ask them for their approval."
In a close three to two vote, Moab City Council approved a request from the Grand Water and Sewer Service Agency (GWSSA) to endorse their intent to construct a new agency owned and operated waste water treatment plant in Spanish Valley. Council members Rob Sweeten, Gregg Stucki and Jeff Davis voted to approve the endorsement with Kyle Bailey and Keith Brewer voting against it. GWSSA does not need the city's approval to proceed with plans to construct the new plant, but agency officials have sought support from both the city and the county, a move they believe will make it easier to secure Omega Speedmaster Chronograph Automatic
Terry Sykes, GWSSA manager, said his main reason for the request for city support was "to give us clear direction when approaching funding agencies. That's really the bottom line."
"The real question is do you want to build a regional plant with us or not," Sykes said.
Mayor Dave Sakrison directed the council's attention back to the agenda item, which called for only an endorsement of the agency's intent to build.
When city councilman Keith Brewer asked if GWSSA intends to build the plant whether or not the city backs the plan, Sykes replied, "The need is there."
"I guess this is territorial" said City Manager Donna Metzler. "But we have an operating system completely under our control. Why relinquish this control when we can keep our rates low, which is our responsibility to our citizens?"
"I am definitely opposed to having Moab citizens get a big rate increase so that San Juan residents can have service," said Rob Sweeten.
Davis made the motion to approve the request for endorsement and asked GWSSA representatives to clarify the reason the agency is making the request.
During a spirited discussion, city council members raised many concerns about the plan, including the location and Omega Watches Deville Price
size of the plant, cost of construction, the fee structure, the extent of San Juan County's involvement, and whether the plant would be a regional one built jointly by Moab city and GWSSA or completely owned by GWSSA.

million gallons about three times the current need in Spanish Valley with the ability to expand to twice that capacity. It would occupy about a three acre footprint, cost approximately $19 million, he said, and preferably be located near the lowest portion of the GWSSA system. One location, among several being considered, is county property located on 400 East just outside the city limits.
"Why not let them get on with what they need to do," said Jeff Davis just before the vote.
A regional plant built jointly by the GWSSA and Moab city raises many territorial concerns about just how the construction costs, ownership, management, responsibility and fee structure would be apportioned. Moab city user rates would rise significantly to help finance the new infrastructure, city officials said.
